AB SUP SCHOOL FAQ’s

Is Adventure Boardsports an affiliated school ?

Yes. Adventure Boardsports is a Level 2 affiliated SUP school through BSUPA. British Stand Up Paddleboard Association.

How do I book a lesson, tour or rental ?

Contact Amy on amy@adventureboardsports.co.uk or on 07454109609 to book. Lessons, tours and rentals are not advertised through the website. As SUP is weather/wind dependant sessions aren’t advertised in advance. If you have any particuar dates in mind contact Amy and she will check the availabilty and times, and discuss your requiremnts. Sessions are confirmed by Amy near to the date of your session incase of any weather changes.

What time are lessons and tours ?

Adventure Boardsports operate on the River Torridge, which is a tidal river. Lesson’s and tours operate over high tide. Times of lessons vary each day due to the time of high water. Due to the tides usually there is one lesson per day.

How much are the sessions, and how long do they last ?

Beginner lesson (MAX OF 6) - £50 p/p 1.5hr Improver lesson (MAX OF 6) - £50 p/p 1.5hr 1:1 - £120 2hr
Tours (MAX OF 6) - 2 hours 1 person £85 p/p 2 people £65 p/p 3 people £60 p/p 4 people + £55 p/p

What equipment is included ?

Board, paddle, qrb belt (quick release belt ) and leash, bouyancy aid.

Can I use my own board ?

Yes, no problem

Are wetsuit’s included ?

Adventure Boardsports dont supply wetsuits. Due to the warmer months full wetsuits aren’t necessary. A shorty wetsuit is fine, or shorts, a tshirt or rashvest is very adequate. Bare foot is fine as well. If you would like to hire a wetsuit we have an agreement with North Devon Surf School in Westward Ho! who will happily offer you a hire. Tel : 01237 474663
For children wetsuits may be advised, but this can be discussed further with yourinstructor.

How do I make payment ?

Payment is by cash on the day or by bank transfer. If paying by bank transfer this is made once your session has been confirmed.

I'm not a confident swimmer, but I would like to book a lesson, is this still possible ?

As long as you are confident to float in the water, that is fine. You will also be wearing a buoyancy aid. An instructor will be close at hand throughout the lesson. Your lesson will be planned to suit your requirements, which will be discussed.

What are the age restrictions for children ?

For all sessions children need to be 12yrs or above. And if under 18yrs they need to be accompanied by an adult that is actively taking part.

Are group lessons mixed with others ?

This all depends on how busy we are with bookings. If there are others to join your group you will be told beforehand. If there are any medical issues where you prefer not to be with others then this can be arranged. All this can be discussed prior to your booking.

Where do we meet ?

For lessons and rentals we meet at the lay by called Little America (named by the locals) This is alongside the River Torridge on the A386 just outside of Bideford. We use the app what3 words to explain the location. The 3 words are:

This will pinpoint the location, and provide directions. Lookout for the “AB” van. The instructor will be there ready ! Please note... The location for tours may vary, which will be discussed and arranged with you.

I wish to do a rental, can I bring my dog along with me ?

No. This is to protect our boards from any damage, and insurance purposes.

I haven't SUP’d before, can I do a rental ?

If you have never sup’d before we will advise on a lesson, this will be more beneficial. You will be taught the basics and the necessary safety aspects. Feel free to discuss this via the contact details.

Rentals run alongside lesson’s, these are classed as a supervised rental so an instructor is at hand whilst on the water. You will also be handed an emergency contact card to take with you. Amy will confirm with you the time to meet.
